DRAWING – We will focus on building fundamental drawing skills. Students will learn techniques such as sketching, proportions, measuring and composition. Additionally, we learn how to see with an artist’s eye and capture what we see on paper.
CHARCOAL – In these classes we will explore how to make your pictures come alive! Using vine and willow charcoal students will study the values (the lights and darks) of our subjects. This is also known as shade, shading or tone.
OIL PAINTING – The easiest way of learning to paint is with oils (contrary to popular belief!). Oils can produce a wider range of effects than any other type of paint. They remain wet for hours so we can build, refine and improve a picture to our heart’s desire. Every aspiring painter needs a strong painting foundation composed of the basic skills.
PASTELS – In these classes we use NuPastels which are different from oil pastels. Also known as “dusties”, they are much easier to work with because of their semi-hardness and allow for greater variation in work including detail.
WATERCOLOR – Completely different from oils, watercolor is often described as “soft” or “light” because the pigments in watercolors are often not as bright as acrylics or oil paints. In these classes we will cover materials, tools, techniques, color and value.
